The Nipawin Hawks are the SJHL champions. They won the Canalta Cup after holding off the Estevan Bruins to win game seven 2-1 Tuesday night.

The two teams, who were evenly matched throughout the series, almost finished a scoreless first period, before the Hawks were able to beat Estevan netminder Bo Didur to take the lead. Carter Doerksen, the captain of the Hawks, scored his first of the post-season to make it 1-0. Josh McDougall and Jake Tremblay assisted on the goal.

The Bruins would tie things up in the second. Jake Fletcher, the captain of the Bruins, would be the one to score. His 11th of the year, assisted by Kaelan Holt, sent the two teams into the third knotted up 1-1.

There, Josh McDougall, who led the way offensively all season for the Hawks, would notch the game-winner. Nipawin had a 5-on-3 powerplay, and they were able to capitalize for the lead. Tyler Adams and Grant Baetsen assisted on the goal.

The Hawks now advance to the Anavet Cup, which makes its return this season. The winner of the best-of-seven series between the Hawks and MJHL champion Steinbach Pistons will advance to the RBC Cup in Chilliwack, B.C. The series begins Friday in Steinbach.
