The Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association Regional basketball tournaments kick off this weekend, with the teams vying for the chance to play in Hoopla, the provincial championships, next weekend.

Weyburn Comprehensive is the site of the girls’ 5A tournament. They enter the tournament as the number six seed, and open play against North Battleford Friday night. Also in Weyburn for the weekend tournament is Prince Albert Carlton, Swift Current, Notre Dame, Prince Albert St. Mary, and Yorkton Regional.

The WCS Eagles senior boys’ basketball team will be travelling to North Battleford for their tournament. The team from Weyburn enters the tournament as the number two seed and begins play against Martensville tonight.

The Fillmore Falcons senior girls team will be in Kenaston for their Hoopla qualifiers. They are seeded 9th and play Hague in the first game.

Oxbow, the 15th ranked team in the girls’ 3A tournament, will open against the number two seed Lumsden tonight. On the boys' side, the team from Oxbow plays Regina Christian School in their opener.

The top teams coming out of regionals advance to Hoopla next weekend. The tournament this year will be played in Prince Albert.
