In game two of their home-and-home set, it was the Notre Dame Hounds coming out on top again. A more experienced veteran squad was handled 5–2 by the Hounds at Duncan McNeil arena.

It appeared as if the Red Wings would exact their revenge from last night’s home loss when Ty Brown opened the scoring just over four minutes into the game. 17-year-old Braden Birnie picked up the assist as he set up Brown with a great feed in front.

Almost from that point on it was all Notre Dame, as the Hounds would get the equalizer just a few minutes later when Jakob Breault wristed a powerplay goal past Liam McCloskey, who was seeing his first action of the preseason.

They picked it back up in the second period, with goals from Marshall Wilton and Noah Bankowski to jump ahead to a 3–1 lead.

The physicality picked up in the middle frame with numerous scrums after the whistle, which eventually led to tempers boiling over when Dylan McCabe dropped the gloves with defenceman Tim Gould. McCabe got Gould’s helmet off and landed some hard right hands before the referees stepped in and both were sent to the locker room.

Notre Dame would add a pair of goals in the middle of the third to grab an insurmountable 5–1 lead. Both were off strange bounces, as the fourth caromed off the back boards and off McCloskey’s skate and in. While the fifth Hounds goal directed way up in the air off the goaltender’s shoulder before landing behind him and being tapped in by Tanner Mortenson.

The Red Wings would get one back late in the game when Sean Olson buried a shot after a beautiful cross-ice feed from Cole DeKoninck. The powerplay marker was the first of the preseason for the Wings.

Next up is a home-and-home to close out the preseason with the Estevan Bruins. The Red Wings will be at Crescent Point Place on Friday night, before making the trek down Highway 39 on Saturday.
