Once again, players from southeast Saskatchewan took charge at the Telus Cup, as they helped power the Notre Dame Hounds to a 4-2 win over the Cantonniers de Magog Wednesday. The Hounds midget AAA squad remains undefeated at the national championship tournament being played in Sudbury, Ontario.

Nolan Renwick, who is originally from Milestone, but played some of his minor hockey in Weyburn, picked up a goal and an assist in the game. Renwick’s goal, the first of the afternoon for the Hounds, which also tied the game up at 1-1 in the first, was assisted by Weyburn’s Cordel Larson. Renwick’s assist came on a goal from Quinn Schmiemann in the second period.

The game-winning goal was scored by Zach Plucinski early in the third period, and it was Weyburn’s Ethan Ernst who was credited with the assist on the goal. Ernst, Larson and Renwick all have three points each at the tournament.

The Hounds prepare for the Lethbridge Midget AAA Hurricanes Thursday morning. They close out the round robin Friday against the Moncton Flyers.
