Christmas can't come soon enough for the Weyburn Red Wings, who will be asking for some healthy bodies from Santa. Forced to roll with just nine forwards — and a converted forward in Garrett Szeremley — the Wings were downed 7–3 on home ice to the Notre Dame Hounds.

Notre Dame sored early and often, as they jumped out to a 1–0 lead just 57 seconds into the game. The Red Wings answered just 31 seconds later on the powerplay, with local boy Ben Hiltz potting his 14th goal of the season.

Weyburn generated most of the chances in the opening frame, but a pair of late Notre Dame tallies gave them a 3–1 lead heading into the first intermission. The shots were 12–11 in favour of the boys in red through 20 minutes.

After that it was all downhill as Notre Dame continued to pour it on with three more unanswered goals in the second period. Connor Maclean's goal at 3:12 of the period chased goaltender Riley lamb from the game, who made 12 saves on 16 shots.

Eighteen-year-old Cody Levesque didn't get much help from his teammates, who were outshot 19–7 in the period and trailed 6–1 heading into the third.

Tempers flared early on in the final frame when Szeremley fought Notre Dame's Tanner Tarbell in a back-and-forth affair. Both landed some solid shots before wrestling each other to the ice, ending their night a little early.

Hiltz and Jordan Kazymyra added goals for the Wings in the third as they tried to mount an imposisble comeback, before ultimately falling 7–3. Notre Dame lead in the shot department by a wide 44–26 margin.

Next up for the Wings is one final game before the two-week Christmas break and it just happens to be the first meeting of the year with the rival Estevan Bruins. Estevan currently sits eight points ahead of Weyburn in the standings. Puck drop goes at 7:30 at Crescent Point Place.
