Players from Weyburn made their mark in the first game of the Telus Cup for the Notre Dame Hounds Monday afternoon. The Hounds are seeking their third national Midget AAA title in ten years, and have five players who have ties to Weyburn in the lineup.

Notre Dame came away with a 5-3 win over the Toronto Young Nationals, and Weyburn and area featured prominently on the score sheet. Weyburn’s Ethan Ernst and Milestone’s Nolan Renwick, who played minor hockey in Weyburn, picked up an assist each, while Cordel Larson scored an empty-netter to put the game out of reach.

The Hounds won’t have much time before they are back in action. They play against the host Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves Tuesday night.
