Justin Smoak hit a homerun, and drove in four runs, as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 7-2 Thursday night. Steve Pearce added a three-run shot, while Marco Estrada picked up the win on the mound. The victory if the fourth in five games for the Jays, who have looked like a different team in May, after struggling through most of April.

Estrada gave up a two-run shot in the first inning to Nelson Cruz but settled in after that. He went six innings, striking out eight while giving up only four hits. He also walked three in his start. Aaron Loup, Jason Grilli, and Leonel Campos threw an inning of relief each to preserve the lead.

The Jays answered the early lead from the Mariners with a run of their own in the first. The bats really opened up in the fifth inning, as the Jays scored five, chasing Seattle starter Chase De Jong. The inning was capped off by Pearce’s home run.

The Blue Jays are now 3-1 on their homestand and have improved their record on the season to 14-21. They will look to continue the May success when they play the Mariners again Friday night at Rogers Centre.
