The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings were scheduled to play a pair of games on the weekend - a home game Saturday against the Emerald Park Wizards, and a road game Sunday in Esterhazy against the Tundra. The weather didn’t cooperate, however, and just the road game took place.

The Wheat Kings travelled up to Esterhazy and came back with a 4-1 victory. The win extended Yellow Grass’ season-opening winning streak to six games, and they six in first in the QVHL.

The Wheat Kings jumped out to an early lead Sunday, as William Whitrow opened the scoring at the 9:54 mark of the first period. Connor Lafoy and Walker Whitrow picked up the assists. Austin McCann then extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal with 7:07 left on the clock.

William Whitrow made it 3-0 with 5:55 remaining in the opening frame. The goal was assisted by Walker Whitrow.

Esterhazy would score the lone goal of the second period. Tanner Melnychuk would get the puck past Yellow Grass goaltender Devon Pompu with 1:30 left in the middle period.

The Wheat Kings would extend the lead back to three goals, though. Rhett Labbie scored in the third period, with Walker Whitrow notching his third assist of the game, and Connor Lafoy his second.

The Wheat Kings will be back in action on Saturday. They host the Lumsden Jax, with the game starting at 7:00 p.m.
