It was a scary scene on the ice in Spokane, Washington Saturday night. Chiefs rookie forward Cordel Larson, who is from Weyburn, was hit into the boards by Tri-Cities Americans defenseman Aaron Hyman. The hit is said to have knocked Larson unconscious, and he was taken off the ice on a stretcher.

The Chiefs issued an update Saturday night, stating Larson was in stable condition and had full use of his extremities. His overall injury status is to be determined.

The player who hit Larson was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding.

So far this season, Larson has scored six goals and added an assist in 36 games with the Chiefs. He was also named the team’s academic achiever for the month of December, posting an average of 91 percent at a high school in Spokane.
