The Southeast Aaron Well Servicing Midget AA Gold Wings went into Melville on the weekend for a pair of games against the Parkland Fire and came away with a pair of wins. They notched a 4-2 win Saturday afternoon, and a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

In the game on Saturday, the Gold Wings got things going with a power-play goal in the first period. Khloe Bedore scored her fifth of the season, assisted by Kayvee Mullinger.

Parkland responded with a goal with just three seconds left on the clock, but it didn’t deter the Gold Wings, who came out firing in the second period.

At the 8:50 mark of the middle frame, Alyssa Ohrt scored her first of two goals of the day, assisted by Marci Leblanc and Kiera Pittman. Leblanc then scored a goal of her own with 2:55 left in the period. Pittman recorded an assist, and Haley Labbie had the other.

The Fire made it close in the third when Tamara Knapp beat Kara Zelyck to make it 3-2. The two-goal lead was quickly restored, though, as Ohrt scored an unassisted tally just over four minutes later.

In the game Sunday, Parkland was the first to the board in a match-up where special teams dictated the final score. Sara Auchstatter scored a power-play goal on Taryn McKinney at the 5:48 mark of the period. It would be the only goal McKinney would allow, turning aside the other 23 shots she faced in the game.

Jordan Meyers replied for the Gold Wings with a power-play tally with 9:30 left in the first period. Mullinger and Bedore picked up assists on the goal.

Labbie then made it a 2-1 game in the second period. Her goal came on the power play and was assisted by Ohrt. Kendra Kotylak rounded out the scoring with a third power play goal of the game for Weyburn, assisted by Leblanc.

With the wins on the weekend, the Gold Wings improved to 7-1 on the season, good for first in the South Division of the SaskFHL.

The next league games for the Gold Wings will be on December 1st and 2nd when they host Parkland in Midale.
