The Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings kicked off their playoff run Tuesday night, as they played host to the Notre Dame Argos for the first game of their best-of-five quarterfinal series. It would be the Wings coming out on top, as they trounced the Argos 7-3.

Weyburn started the game off strong, with two goals in 67 seconds in the first period. The first goal came at the 3:42 mark, when Matthew Daunheimer scored, with assists from Ty Stadnick and Rylan Neiszner. It became a 2-0 game when Matthew Anderson scored on the power play. Assists on his goal were credited to Gavin Doud and Joel Niemegeers.

The Argos replied just a minute and a half into the second period when Jaxon Krupa beat Jaxon Robertson. It would be one of three Robertson would allow while picking up the win. He stopped the 30 other shots he faced in the game.

The Wings restored the two-goal lead 33 seconds later. Anderson scored his second goal of the game, set up by Brogan Schmeltzer. Braden Birnie then added to the lead just over four minutes later, assisted by Anderson.

The Argos replied with a goal of their own before the end of the third, as Tyler Bedard scored. This marker sent the teams to the locker room after 40 minutes, with Weyburn up 4-2.

In the third, it didn’t take long for the Wings to add to their lead. Kyler Douglas scored just 27 seconds into the period, with Birnie and Doud assisting. Birnie would then score his second of the game before the period was five minutes old, with Douglas and Mitchell McDonald picking up the helpers.

The Argos scored a power-play goal just after the halfway mark of the frame, as Ben Edwards found a way to beat Robertson. The Wings replied with their second power play of the night. McDonald scored, with Birnie and Baron Lawrence being credited with assists.

The series now moves to Wilcox Thursday, with game two being played at the Duncan McNeill Arena. Game three will be held at Crescent Point Place Sunday.
