The Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings picked up four points on the weekend, with a pair of wins. The weekend also included perhaps one of the rarest feats of hockey - a goal credited to a goaltender.

The Wings started the weekend in Regina on Saturday, where they took on the Vics. The Wings scored three goals in the opening period and held on for a 4-3 victory.

Kyle Perras started the scoring for Weyburn with a short-handed goal early in the first period. The unassisted marker was followed up with a goal from Rylan Erb, who scored at the 7:34 mark of the first. He was assisted by Gavin Doud.

Parker Douglas then finished off the scoring for the Wings in the first, finding the back of the net with 5:47 left in the first. His goal was assisted by Hudson Hall and Erb.

The Vics would rally over the next 23:52 to tie the game up, scoring three goals from the dying moments of the first period to the opening moments of the third. The Wings wouldn’t let the rally deter them, however.

Sam Chittenden would score the game-winner with 1:53 left in regulation. Sawyer Kopec was credited with the assist on the goal.

The Wings would come back home Sunday for a matinee matchup with Prairie Storm. Weyburn came away from the match-up with a 4-1 victory, which saw goaltender Kobe Kmita credited with a goal in the third period.

Before the game got to the third, though, the Wings opened the scoring early in second. Brogan Schmeltzer scored a power-play goal just 1:28 into the middle frame. Chittenden and Mitchell McDonald assisted on the goal. Bryce Cockwill would tie the game up for the visitors just before the halfway mark of the period, then Weyburn took over with three unanswered goals.

Gavin Doud scored in the dying seconds of the second period as Weyburn got their second power-play goal of the night. Erb assisted on the goal which gave Weyburn a 2-1 lead.

Then, in the third period, Kmita was credited with an insurance marker with 10:55 left on the clock, making it 3-1 Weyburn. The goal came about after Kmita was the last Weyburn player to touch the puck during a delayed penalty call. An errant pass by Prairie Storm ended up back in their own net. It is the first goal for Kmita as a goaltender, and the first time it has happened to a member of the Midget AA Wings in recent memory.

Chittenden closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left on the clock.

With the two wins, the Wings are now 7th in the South Sask SAAHL standings. They are gearing up for a game Saturday when they travel to Melville to face the Millionaires.
