The Midget AA Streamline Wings opened their best-of-five series against the Notre Dame Argos with a big win Sunday. Brayden Duke scored twice as the Wings skated to a 6-1 final.

The Wings opened the scoring just six seconds into the game, when Duke took a feed from Rhett Nikolejsin, and beat Argos goalie Noah Newsome. Just moments later, Axel Lund would score his first of the postseason, with the assists credited to Nivay Haupstein and Braden Birnie.

Notre Dame would get on the board early in the second when Tanner Barbeau scored a powerplay goal, but Weyburn would extend the lead just over a minute later, when Nikolejsin scored, assisted by Duke and Brayden Barsness. Just 90 seconds later, it became a 4-1 game, when Suke scored his second of the game, assisted by Barsness and Luke Arndt.

The Wings would go to the power play late in the period, when Ellis Bachelu received a double minor for butt-ending and a double minor for a hit to the head. With the eight minute power play, the Wings would add one more before the period closed out, as Todd Johnson scored, with Matthew Anderson credited with the assist. The Wings wouldn’t be able to capitalize a second time with the advantage, though.

Halfway through the third period, Anderson would score a goal himself, assisted by Johnson and Lund, making it a 6-1 final.

The series now heads to Wilcox for game two Wednesday night, before returning to Weyburn for game three Saturday afternoon.
