The Milestone Flyers took the first game in the Highway 39 rivalry series against the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings Thursday night 7-2. The series, a first-round match-up in the SHA Provincial Senior A playdowns, is a best-of-three series

The Wheat Kings came out with the first goal, as Mike Onstad scoring just 45 seconds into the game. His goal was unassisted.

From there, the Flyers took things over at the Yellow Grass Communiplex, as they went on to hand the Wheat Kings their first loss of the season on home ice.

The onslaught started with an unassisted goal from Morgan Gallais just 90 seconds later to tie the game 1-1.

The Flyers then took the lead at the 9-minute mark of the first with a goal from Chance Olsen, assisted by Brad Reaney and Austin Bourhis. The lead was extended with 8:21 left on the clock when Logan Gorsalitz scored, assisted by KC Brooks and Dyllon Giblett.

It became a 4-1 game when Jacob Cardiff scored, with his goal assisted by Gorsalitz.

The Flyers finished off the outpouring of goals in the first period with 2:03 left on the clock, as Jake Coulet added an unassisted marker.

The Wheat Kings would get one goal back in the second period. With 2:58 on the clock, former Weyburn Red Wing Tucker Neuberger scored on Milestone netminder Riley Ross, assisted by Onstad and Devin Cobbold.

Milestone added to the lead in the third, when Gallais scored his second of the game at the 5:08 mark of the period. It was assisted by Jacob Cardiff. The scoring in the period was rounded out by Ian Williams, with assists from Lucas Stubel and John Sonntag.

Game two of the series is set to go in Milestone on Monday, with game three to be played on February 14th if necessary.
