The streets of Weyburn were taken over by the Opportunity Road Race Sunday. Runners from across the province ran in three different races: 5k, 10k and 15k. There was also a 5k walk and a 15k relay.

The 5k had a total of 30 participants. Gerry Nagy from Weyburn had the fastest time overall, finishing the race in 18:19. The fastest woman in the 5k was Sabrina Mainil, who clocked in at 21:43. The youngest competitor in the 5k race was Michael MacKenzie, who finished in 23:10.

The top three male and female finishers in the 5k:

Male: Gerry Nagy - 18:19; Christopher Petays - 21:07; Mike Manko-Bouche - 21:42

Female: Sabrina Mainil - 21:43; Kristen Andres - 24:52; Jennifer Langen - 26:03

The 10k race saw 21 runners come to the starting line for the race. The fast time overall in the race was from Doug Whitehead, who finished in a blistering 44:27. The top female finisher in the 10k race was Heidi Bousfield, who completed the race in 48:15. While the 5k had runners from nearly every age group, the 10k didn’t have anyone running the race who was under the age of 25.

Female: Heidi Bousfield - 48:15; Dee Nelson - 49:03; Lana Thompson-Van Eaton - 49:42

The 15k race was the longest distance at the Opportunity Road Race. In total there were 18 runners in this competition. Tye Doll had the fastest overall time, finished in 1:05:22. Right behind him was Kendra Jones, who was the fastest woman in the 15k with a time of 1:14:38. Weyburn Police Service Constable Jeff Bartsch ran the course in full equipment. He finished in 1:58:59.

Male: Tye Doll - 1:05:22; Mohammed Nazari - 1:07:27; Barry Cyca - 1:08:28

Female: Kendra Jones - 1:14:38; Samantha Gross - 1:16:50; Michelle Cundall - 1:23:30
