With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the score tied at two, Kevin Pillar, known for making spectacular plays with his glove, stepped to the plate. When he hit a line-drive over the wall for a solo home run, the walk-off win brought the more than 42,000 in attendance for the Mother’s Day game at Rogers Centre to their feet, as the Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 3-2 Sunday.

It was the first walk-off home run of Pillar’s career, who has also been quietly building up to being the hits leader this season in the American League. The win also secured the Jays a four-game series sweep. It is the first time the Jays have done that since August of 2015.

Justin Smoak also homered for the Jays. He sent a two-run shot over the wall in the sixth inning. It was Smoak’s seventh of the campaign.

Aaron Sanchez started on the mound for the Jays, making his first start after a stint on the 10-day disabled list. Sanchez had been out since May 1st with a split nail on the middle finger of his throwing hand. He went five innings, allowing one run (unearned) and five hits while striking out four. Dominic Leone came on to replace him, and after that, Ryan Tepera. Tepera would earn the win, working 2 ⅓ innings, striking out two.

The Blue Jays will be back in action Monday night when they host the Atlanta Braves. The inter-league matchup will see two games in Toronto, followed by two games in Atlanta. Mike Bolsinger is expected to start for the Jays, his second of the season. The Braves will counter with Bartolo Colon.

You can catch all the action on Saskatchewan’s Home of Blue Jays Baseball, AM1190, beginning with the pregame show at 5:00 p.m.
