Heading into Thursday, the Red Wings had one empty spot remaining on their 25-man roster. That spot has now been filled.

Eighteen-year-old forward Jacob Piller has been acquired by the Red Wings and will join the team immediately.   Piller was selected by Weyburn in 2015, 28th overall in the SJHL draft.

The Balgonie, Sask. native has spent the past two seasons with the Swift Current Legionnaires in the Midget AAA league and was named an assistant captain last season. In 44 games last year Piller put up 28 goals and 63 points. He added another six points in seven playoff games last season.

At the Mac's Tournament, one of the biggest Midget tournaments in Canada, Piller was named a 2nd-team all-star. In four games he potted five goals and added three assists.

Piller is now the third member of last year's Legionnaires team on the Red Wings. He joins defenceman Mkyllan Couture and goaltender Cody Levesque.

It will be interesting to see where Piller will fit in the deep lineup the Red Wings have, but his scoring ability will be a welcome addition. It is unlikely Piller will dress for the season opener.

Check back tomorrow on the Weyburn Red Wings page for a full roster preview of the 2018-19 team.
