Although it will go down as just two points in the standings, it's a win that felt as good as any for the Weyburn Red WIngs. Mired in one of the longest losing streaks in team history, the Red Wings blanked one of the hottest teams in Canada in a 2–0 win on home ice.

Veteran goaltender Riley Lamb rebounded after a tough road swing with a perfect outing. He stopped all 34 shots he faced, including 14 in the third period as the visiting Kindersley Klippers pushed to get on the board. It's Lamb's second shutout of the season and it couldn't have come at a more opportune time.

The Red Wings were boosted by a trio of veterans returning to the lineup after injuries. Twenty-year-old Burke Johnstone returned and was effective as always killing penalties and throwing the body. Fellow 20-year-olds Sean Olson and Zac Gladu found the scoresheet in their returns. Gladu picked up an assist on the first goal, while Olson had the primary assist on the insurance goal. Both played hard, gritty games and were welcome additions back on the ice.

Showing a lot of good signs in the first period, the Wings were able to jump out in front of the Klippers. After some good work down low, the puck was eventually worked out front where Carson Scheschuk buried it amidst a scramble. It's the defenseman's fifth goal of the season and stood as the game-winner.

Rookie Justin Plett added to the lead just over halfway through the second period. A great feed from Olson in front allowed Plett to slide it past Zach Johnson in goal. The 18-year-old Abbotsford, B.C. native now has three goals in his past three games and is starting to come into his own. It's a great sign for the Red Wings to start getting some secondary scoring, as well as getting healthy bodies back in the lineup.

Kindersley turned it on for the final 20 minutes and had a couple great scoring chances. One was swept off of the goal line by a Wings defenceman at the last second to preserve the goose egg on the scoreboard.

It wasn't a perfect game by any means, but after a rough month of October, the Red Wings will have no complaints with their first win in 27 days. Even more impressive was doing it against a team fighting for the top overall spot in the SJHL and that was ranked 16th in the CJHL last week. It's a huge win for this team that finds itself only five points out of the Viterra Division lead.

The Red Wings have a chance make it two in a row tonight when the Battlefords North Stars visit Crescent Point Place. Puck drop is at 7:30.
