The Redvers Rockets opened their best-of-three quarterfinal series with the Oxbow Huskies with a dominating win Thursday night. After finishing third in the Big Six standings in the regular season, the Rockets came out firing on all cylinders against their opponents, who were sixth.

It was the Huskies who scored the first goal of the game, though, as Taysen Holt tallied just before the halfway mark of the period. The assist went to Blake Brooks.

Then, the Rockets took over, scoring four goals in six minutes. It started with Dakota Rose getting the puck past Ethan Veroba with 8:07 left to play in the period. Jordon Miller and Brent Wilson assisted on the goal. Less than a minute later, Kevin Mann scored for Redvers, making it a 2-1 game. Drew Hoff was credited with the helper on the tally. It would become 3-1 less than 90 seconds after that, when Miller scored, with Jarvis Ducharne and Rose getting the assists. The scoring in the first period was rounded out with 2:33 left on the clock, when Sean Jonassen scored, with assists from Derick Wilson and Ryan Yates.

The Rockers would add two more goals in the first five minutes of the second period, with Craig Gaudet scoring, on an assist from Kelsey Kenler. Jonassen would score his second of the game just over a minute later, giving the Rockets a 6-1 lead.

The Huskies, back on the ropes, found some offence 35 seconds later. Brycen Odgers scored on Thomas Nauche, making it a 6-2 game. The momentum would be short-lived, though, as the Rockets proceeded to add to their margin.

Kenler scored a goal of his own with 3:46 remaining in the period, as Francis Lamotte and Gaudet assisted. Then, with just 20 seconds left in the period, Miller would score his second of the game, assisted by Gaudet.

In the third period, the Huskies would score again, but it proved to be too little, too late. Holt scored an unassisted goal for Oxbow, but the Rockets worked to extend the margin back to six goals, with Rose notching his second of the game, with assists to Gaudet and Miller.

Game two of the series will be played Sunday, as the teams meet in Oxbow.
