It wasn’t the start Team Saskatchewan was hoping for at the U21 National Baseball Championships Thursday.

Saskatchewan opened the tournament in the morning, with a game against Team Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia scored four runs in the first inning, then limited Saskatchewan to just two runs for the rest of the game. The team from the Maritimes would win the game by a 4-2 final.

In the afternoon, Saskatchewan faced Team Quebec. Quebec would score in four of the six innings they batted, including three runs in the fourth, to build up a 701 lead. Saskatchewan added one run in the seventh, but couldn’t rally to pull close, with the final score winding up to be 7-2.

Saskatchewan continued the tournament Friday, as they play St. Thomas, one of the two teams representing Ontario, in the afternoon. Saskatchewan won that game with a staggering 14-2 victory.

The tournament continued Saturday, as Saskatchewan closes out the round-robin with a game against Prince Edward Island beating them 4-1.

Team Saskatchewan then continued on to the Quarter Finals where they played Team New Brunswick again winning 3-2.

Saskatchewan will now play Windsor, Ontario in the Semi-Finals this afternoon and hopefully be able to pull a top three spot.

Team Saskatchewan features three players from Weyburn and area. Carver Krafchuk, Carter Sorenson and Brandon Hutt all play for the Weyburn PAR Contracting Athletics. Saskatchewan is coached by Athletics head coach Bert Kauf.
