"This is where things get really, really exciting," said Zeljko Stefanovic, program director with the Saskatchewan Selects. "The kids now are going to get an opportunity to showcase what they've learned over the last two months. The kids are going to be able to see where they're at and where they need to make some improvements."

It will be a big weekend for the Saskatchewan Selects football team, as they host the Manitoba Selects in Moose Jaw for the Selects Bowl Sunday, in addition to combined practices between the two teams on Saturday.

The Saskatchewan Selects have been practicing since mid-November, as they gear up for the International Pigskin Classic in San Antonio, Texas, The tournament will see the teams from Saskatchewan play against teams from across the United States and Mexico.

There are four teams from Saskatchewan which will be competing, with 13 players from Weyburn representing the region across the four age groups.

In the 10U group, which is nine and ten-year-old players, EJ Matt, Nolan Uhren and Kayden Henheffer will be representing the region.

"Our 10U, which is our nine, 10 and 11-year-olds, to see the passion in those kids eyes and the excitement is unbelievable. To watch those really young kids play football as it's really meant to be, our offensive lineman are learning how to pick up blocks, these are things that they're teaching at university level, it's amazing to watch those offensive lineman look like professional football players,” said Stefanovic.

The 12U team includes Tiki Zeus Umbach, Isaiah sanderson and Alex Junk. Playing On the 14U squad is Riley Dugan, Clay Gust, Ben Michel and Ryder Backlun.

There are also three players from Weyburn on the Varsity team: William Vilcu, Chase Fillmore and Cash Cuthbert.

The games this weekend will see the Saskatchewan and Manitoba teams going head to head at the Yara Centre in Moose Jaw. The 10U, 12U and 14U teams will all play, with the first game Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

The teams will then be heading to the Pigskin Classic which takes place February 23rd and 24th.
