The South East Aaron Well Servicing Gold Wings entertained the Regina Rebels for a pair of games in Midale on the weekend. The Gold Wings came out firing and took both games. With the wins, the Gold Wings are now seven points up on Regina for first in the South Division of the SaskFHL and have won nine straight games.

Saturday, the Gold Wings skated to a 5-0 victory, thanks to a strong effort in net from Taryn McKinney. She stopped all 23 shots she faced in the game. At the other end, the Gold Wings kept up a constant stream of offence, directing 36 shots at Regina netminder Ryleigh Carson, including 20 in the third period.

The Gold Wings got on the board when the game was barely three minutes old. Jordan Meyers scored her fifth goal of the season, assisted on the tally by Kendra Kotylak and Alyssa Ohrt.

The lead was extended to 2-0 before the end of the frame when Brynn Juntz found the back of the net. She was assisted by Haley Labbie.

In the second period, the Gold Wings added to the lead, as Marci Leblanc beat Carson. Meyers and Ohrt assisted on the marker.

The Gold Wings kept up the pressure in the third period. Two of the 20 shots they put on goal got past Carson, including one from Kaycee Mullinger, assisted by Labbie and Kuntz, and Leblanc’s second of the day, assisted by Meyers and Mullinger.

The game was decidedly chippy, with the two teams combining for 17 power plays (The Gold Wings were 1/9, Regina 0/8) and 34 penalty minutes, including a double minor for head contact late in the game.

On Sunday, the game would see fewer penalties called, but the score differential would be the same, as the Gold Wings skated to a 6-1 victory on the strength of a natural hat trick from Kotylak in the second period.

Weyburn again opened the scoring early in the first period when Leblanc scored her third goal of the weekend at the 1:52 mark. Taylor Rooney and Dalis Prawdzik assisted on the goals.

Prawdzik would then score a goal of her own with 2:37 left in the frame, with Leblanc and Rooney assisting.

In the second period, Kotylak took the game over. She scored her first goal of the frame at the 9:52 mark, assisted by Labbie and Meyers. It was followed up with another goal just 28 seconds later. Bailey Farr was credited with the assist.

The hat trick was completed when Kotylak scored with 2:04 remaining in the period, assisted by Meyers and Farr.

Prawdzik would kick off the scoring in the third period with her second of the game with 11:31 remaining in regulation. Leblanc and Rooney assisted on the goal.

The Rebels would spoil the shutout bid of Gold Wings goaltender Kara Zelyck with just over five minutes remaining in the third when Brynn Ferguson got the puck past her.

Throughout the game, the Gold Wings outshot Regina 52-39, including 21 shots in the third period.

The Gold Wings will now look to extend their winning streak to 10 games on Friday when they host the Notre Dame Hounds in Midale. The Hounds enter the game in last place in the South Division of the SaskFHL, with just three wins on the season.
