There were two games in the SJHL Tuesday night, including a match-up between the top offence in the league, and the best defence, as the Nipawin Hawks looked to end the nine-game winning streak of the Flin Flon Bombers at the Centennial Arena. Meanwhile, the Kindersley Klippers embarked on a trip to the eastern part of the province, taking on the Terriers in Yorkton.

In Nipawin, the Hawks equalled their offensive output from two games over the weekend, when they beat the Flin Flon Bombers 4-2. The win ended the streak of the Bombers and was potentially a preview of a late-playoff series matchup between two of the top teams in the SJHL.

The Hawks got on the board just past the halfway mark of the first period, when Jake Tremblay buried his eighth of the season. Before the period was over, though, Flin Flon would score an equalizer, as Jack Michell notched his fourth of the campaign.

Nipawin would take the lead early in the second period, as Carson Erhardt tallied his 15th of the year, getting the puck past Gabriel Waked. Then, just over 2:30 later, Jeremy Bisson made it a 3-1 game with his fifth.

Flin Flon would reply in the third. On the power play, Ethan Daniels scored his first goal since rejoining the team earlier this month at the 7:53 mark.

The Hawks would finish the game off with a goal with just 60 seconds left, though. Rookie Michael Makarenko made it 4-2 with his fourth of the year.

Declan Hobbs turned away 38 of the 40 shots he faced in the win, while Waked stopped 35 of 39.

The Bombers now sit seven points back of the Hawks for first in the Sherwood Division with two games in hand, and 13 games left to play on the season.

In Yorkton, the Klippers were looking to move into a tie with Humboldt for first in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division with a win over the Terriers. For Yorkton, they were hoping the two points would give them sole possession of first place in the Viterra Division. It would be the Klippers who moved up the standings, as they came away with a 4-3 road win.

The Klippers would be the first on the board just 64 seconds into the game as Blake Kleiner score dhis sixth of the year.

The Terriers replied shortly after, as Cole Keenleyside picked up hist 13th of the season with an unassisted, shorthanded goal at the 4:49 mark. The tie wouldn’t last too long, though, as the Klippers regained the lead.

Austin Nault would find the twine behind Ryan Ouellette for his 14th of the campaign, and the Klippers went into the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

In the second period, Ouellette and Kindersley’s netminder Zach Johnson, put on a clinic for the most part with each goalie turning away 14 shots over the 20 minute span. Ouellette, though, was the first to break. With just 42 seconds left in the second period, the Klippers took a 3-1 lead with Devon Cyr’s seventh of the season.

In the third period, Tyler Traptow added to the lead for the Klippers with his 10th of the year, just 6:35 into the final period of regulation. The deficit didn’t deter the Terriers, though.

Just over a minute after the lead was extended to three goals, Colby Brandt would cut the deficit to two goals with his 16th of the year. THen, Keenleyside notched his second of the game with 54 seconds left, and the Yorkton net empty. Despite the pressure, though, the Terriers were unable to get the equalizer in the dying minutes of the game.

The Terriers remain tied with the Estevan Bruins for first in the Viterra Division with 49 points each, while Kindersley is now tied with Humboldt For first in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division with 59 points each.

There is just one game on the schedule Wednesday night. The Klippers continue their trip into the Parkland region, as they take on the Melville Millionaires.
