A busy mid-week schedule in the SJHL Wednesday night, as teams get the last games in before the Christmas break. As a result of the games last night, there were some changes in the league’s overall standings, including some impacts on the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Estevan Bruins made the trek to Melville to take on the Millionaires. Melville would capitalize on the power play to pick up a 5-1 victory.

The Millionaires had goals from Josh Borynec, Aidan Steinke, Cory Schillo, Luke Spadafora and Daniel Liberty in the win. Kolton Leslie scored the lone Estevan goal.

With the win, the Millionaires moved past the idle Red Wings for the tenth overall in the league standings. They are ahead of Weyburn by a single point.

The Humboldt Broncos had a chance to take sole possession of first overall in the league when they travelled to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds. The Hounds had different plans, though, as Notre Dame held off the Broncos for a 4-2 victory.

Notre Dame had three power-play goals en route to the win.

Scoring for the Hounds was Jarrett Penner, Cole Stevenson, Zack Kosteniuk and Marshall Wilton. Drew Warkentine and Mitch Zambon had the goals for Humboldt.

With Humboldt falling in Wilcox, the Nipawin Hawks then had the chance to take first in the league, while the Kindersley Klippers could tie the Broncos with a win over the Hawks. The Hawks would be the ones coming out on top on the road, though, picking up a 3-2 shootout win. The win moved Nipawin into sole possession of first overall in the league, with Humboldt, Melfort and Kindersley right behind them.

Colton Nikiforuk and Carson Erhardt scored for Nipawin, with Caden Benson and Blake Kleiner replying for Kindersley. In the shootout, it was Austen Flaman who was the hero, giving the Hawks the road win.

There are no games scheduled in the SJHL Thursday, but things pick up with four on Friday. The games include the Weyburn Red Wings hosting the Notre Dame Hounds. The Melfort Mustangs travel to Humboldt. The Flin Flon Bombers will be in La Ronge and Yorkton hosts Melville.
