The Southeast AAA Twins had a tough test over the weekend as they faced two strong teams in doubleheaders at Lynne Prime Park.

Saturday saw them square off against the Saskatoon Cubs, the defending champs. They fell 15-1 in the first game and a tighter 3-2 in the second, but Head Coach Blaine Kovach wasn't worried.

"For what the first game was, the score doesn't really reflect how things were for the weekend. First game was just inexperience pitching at the midget level, I think. Our pitcher threw a lot of walks and hit batmen, and that's going to end up with a lot of runs against us that way. You can't defend against walks. They just capitalized on that."

"Then, come the second game, we played much better. Final score was 3-2, came right down to the wire," he said.

On Sunday, they took on the Muenster Red Sox. After losing the first one 9-6 they rallied for the second game and took a victory for the weekend by a score of 4-2.

"The win was great. It gets the monkey off of our backs, the boys were definitely excited to get that. We had great pitching again for game two, we pulled it off and we had our hits, we moved our runners around which is exactly what I wanted them to do. Game one of that series we were up the entire game and ended up going to extra innings. With the international rule, it just didn't play out for us in the end. Both pitchers played really well, and I was happy to see that kind of work put in by the boys for the better effort on Sunday," stated Kovach.

The Twins head up to Saskatoon for the coming weekend for the Selects tournament, where scouts will be able to get a good look at prospects in action.
