As a result of two incidents in Saturday night’s game between the Weyburn Red Wings and the Battlefords North Stars, two suspensions have been handed out by the SJHL. Both of the suspensions will mean two players from the North Stars, who were instrumental in the team’s 6-5 win over the Wings in game two of their best-of-seven quarterfinal, will be watching from the press box.

Chaseton Braid, who would go on to score the eventual game-winner, was handed a two-game suspension for a spearing incident late in the third period. He used his stick to “cowbell” Red Wings captain Mike Eskra deep in the Weyburn zone, dropping Eskra to the ice. The incident was out of the view of the referee, who looked over to see Eskra colliding with a Battlefords player while attempting to get back up onto his feet, and Eskra was assessed a two minute minor for interference. Braid, who escaped getting a penalty at the time, went on to score the game-winning goal for the North Stars.

The second incident occurred in the third period. North Stars defenseman Garan Magnes kicked Red Wings forward Jordan Kazymyra while he was getting up from the ice. The incident also escaped the view of the official, meaning no penalty was called at the time. Magnes was assessed a one-game suspension for the incident.

Game three in the best-of-seven series will be played Tuesday night in Weyburn, at Crescent Point Place. The puck drops on the game at 7:30 p.m.
