The Swift Current 57’s extended their season Wednesday night when they held off the Weyburn Beavers to win game three of the WMBL East Division Finals 6-5. The win forces game four, which will be played Thursday night in Weyburn at Tom Laing Park.

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead, much like they did in games one and two. In the first inning, Ulysses Fluellen and Anthony Wiggins drove in runs, putting Weyburn up 2-0. Zach Mathis added to the lead in the second inning when his single to center brought in Brett Young.

Swift Current was able to get on the board in the third. With bases loaded, Beavers starting pitcher Carson Perkins walked Blake Adams. Weyburn got the run back in the bottom of the third. Wiggins drove in his second run of the night, as his single to right brought in Evan Weidner.

In the sixth inning, the 57’s once again loaded the bases. Perkins walked the next batter, giving Swift Current their second run of the game. THe walk also spelled the end of the night for Perkins, as he was replaced by Beau Rabedeaux.

With the bases loaded, a fielder’s choice scored one run for Swift Current. The next batter, Matt Bondarchuk put a single to third. Mathis made the play for the Beavers and made the throw from a seated position, but it went past first baseman Brady Nygaard. THis allowed two more runs to come across the plate.

Swift Current added one more run in the seventh to extend their lead to two runs, but the gap was narrowed in the bottom of the inning. After Perkins was tossed from the game by first base umpire Elemer Jerkovitz for loudly voicing displeasure of the calls by home plate umpire Chris Shore, Evan Weidner took the first pitch he saw yard, sending it over the left field fence.

The Beavers then tried to get the tying run, and while they threatened in the eighth, and the ninth, they were unable to tie the game up.

The two teams will now meet for game four of the series Thursday night. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
