The Telus Cup kicks off in Sudbury, Ontario today, and Weyburn is well represented at the national Midget AAA tournament.

The Notre Dame Hounds Midget AAA squad earned their berth by capturing the West Regionals in Thunder Bay earlier this month. The Hounds have five players who are either from Weyburn or have played minor hockey in the Opportunity City.

Weyburn’s Ethan Ernst (forward) and Cordel Larson (forward) are joined by Candiac’s Drew Englot (forward), Nolan Renwick (forward) and Kade Nolan (forward) on the Hounds roster. The team is looking for it’s fourth national Midget AAA title, and first since winning back to back in 2009 & 2010.

The other teams in the tournament are the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Toronto Young Nationals, Cantonniers de Magog, the Moncton Flyers and the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.

The first game for the Hounds is this afternoon against Toronto. The tournament runs until Sunday.
