After a terrific start to the new year, a four-game winning streak for the Weyburn Red Wings came crashing down on Saturday night. They were hammered and humiliated 11–2 by the visiting Yorkton Terriers in one of the worst losses in club history.

Things started off poorly and frankly never got better on a disastrous night for the Wings. After the first period it was 4–0 in favour of the Terriers.

Jared Legien's second of the night made it 6–0, before Justin Plett ansewered for Weyburn to break the gooseegg. His fourth of the season was set up by Tristan Petrie and Dawson McKenzie. Legien would finish the hat-trick before the end of the period and it was 7–1 after 40 minutes.

Just 1:53 into the third period McKenzie, the newest Red Wing, netted his first with the red and white after taking a perfect breakaway pass from Mkyllan Couture. That would be it for the Wings on the night, as the Terriers scored four unaswered in final 10:27 to put the wood to the Wings.

Wings head coach Kyle Haines didn't mince words postgame about his team's performance.

"There was so many things that I don't even know where to start. Yorkton came out really hard and they were moving the puck well and we were just standing still watching — we watched the whole night," he said. "We didn't do anything that we set out to do. We didn't establish a forecheck, we didn't get pucks deep, we weren't shooting the puck or playing physical."

"It's one of the worst hockey games I think I've ever been a part of to be honest. It's hard standing up there watching it. These guys have to find a way to get up and play. I'll accept a 3–2 or a 4–2 loss if we played a good game, but this one is really hard to take. I'm a little bit stunned right now."

If there is one positive to take home on the night it's that Melville also lost, which means the Wings still sit just one point out of the final playoff spot.

After the team has processed what went wrong, they'll get in a hard week of practice before a home-and-home with their Highway 39 rivals next weekend.
