The SJHL playoffs will continue. The decision was made by the board of governors Wednesday afternoon during a conference call.

Earlier this week, SJHL president Bill Chow said the decision wouldn’t be an easy one and would be one made with the wishes of the Humboldt Broncos organization heavily factoring in. In a statement released after the conference call, he echoed the sentiments.

“We had a gruelling decision to make with respects on how we can pay tribute and honour the Humboldt Broncos,” Chow said. “On behalf of the board of governors, this intensive decision has been made and that decision is to carry through and finish off the 2017-2018 season.  The league will play hockey.”

The Nipawin Hawks and Estevan Bruins will face each other for the Canalta Cup, beginning on Saturday. It was determined the series wouldn’t start on Friday, out of respect for the Broncos.

Games 1 & 2 will be played in Nipawin Saturday and Sunday respectively. Then, games 3 & 4 will be played in Estevan next Tuesday and Wednesday.

The league will be holding a press conference Thursday at 3:00 p.m. to speak further about the finals, as well as make a number of other announcements.
