Things are getting awfully tight in the standings for the final playoff spot in the SJHL. The Melville Millionaires went into Crescent Point Place and fought for a tough two points in a 4–3 win over the Weyburn Red Wings.

With the loss, the Wings lead for 10th place has shrunk to just a single point over the Mils. This was another one of those games the Red Wings needed to win on home ice as they try to pick up some momentum heading into the Christmas break. They were ultimately outplayed in the third period and for the second time this week is cost them.

They got off to a great start, as Jordan Kazymyra scored not even seven minutes to open the scoring and cause stuffed animals to rain down on the ice. It was Kazymyra's first game in over a month and he was welcomed back with his ninth goal of the season.

Later in the period Cade Kowalski extended the lead to 2–0 with his 14th goal of the season. He pounced on a rebound off a hard shot from Eric Soar, who picked up an assist in his first game against his old Millionaire teammates. The Wings seemed to be in complete control of the game and held a shot advantage of 8–7 through 20 minutes.

Melville would even things up in the second with a pair of goals from defenceman. Sam De Melo and Jacob Bourchier both put pucks past Riley Lamb as it was the Mils turn to have a strangehold on a period. With things all even through 40, it would all come down to the third period.

For the second time this week, the Wings blew a two-goal lead and then were dominated in the third period on home ice. Melville also played last night on  the road, while Weyburn had the night off. A somewhat inexcusable result to a team chasing you in the standings and that has been selling off assets all year.

Mike Wong broke the deadlock at 10:11 of the final frame, before Damian Bentz stretched the lead to 4–2 with 3:53 left on the clock. Sean Olson would score with the net empty to cut the lead to 4–3, but that was as close as the Wings would get. The Millionaires hung on for the victoryand outshot the Red Wings 32–29 in the game.

The Wings are stuck in another slump of some poor results, despite putting together dominant stretchs during those games. Early on in both the Melville and Kindersley games this week, it looked like the Wings were going to run away with it after great starts. Now with just two games remaining before Christmas, the time is now for Wings to start stirnging some wins together.

The boys will get a few days off before being back on the ice next Friday night when the Notre Dame Hounds will pay a visit. The following night the Estevan Bruins will renew hostilities with the Wings at Crescent Point Place.
