The Southeast AAA Midget Twins appear to be playing the right brand of baseball heading into the end of their regular season. After splitting a two-game set with the Muenster Red Sox on Wednesday night, the Twins have gone 3-1 in their last four as provincials in Estevan inch closer.

"We managed to get a few hits and the ones that we did put in play, we really made them count," Twins Head Coach Blaine Kovach shared after taking game one 7-5 against the Red Sox. "Muenster's a very good team and they have a few of the best pitchers and hitters in Saskatchewan.

The Twins victory in game one handed the Red Sox (20-6) just their 6th loss of the season, which can be attributed to a big third inning from the Twins where they drove in six runs off of a couple Red Sox errors.

"We made them pay for their errors, a ground-ball got past their shortstop and one of their outfielders missed a fly ball that led to those runs in the third. Our starting pitcher Burke Lyons did a heck of a job and it came together for us."

Coming off the victory in game one, the Southeast squad got off to a slow start in the second game that Kovach says could have been much different.

"It got away from us for a little bit when some errors caused us to have that shaky inning that usually bites us in the butt. We managed to put the pressure back on them and had them change pitchers once or twice. It shows the character of the boys that they can come back against a team like that without hanging their heads and let the game end that way.  We battled back all the way to the bitter end, it definitely came close."

It was a little too late as the Twins dropped game two to the Red Sox, 9-7.

The head coach remains optimistic with provincials just over one week away, as his young team is coming together late in the season.

"Everyone's going to have a plan heading into provincials on how they want to do things, we're going to stick with our plan. Anything can happen, two years ago the last place team from our league went to Nationals."

"Right now we're playing our best ball heading into provincials," he concluded.

On Saturday, the Twins will wrap up their regular season at home with a doubleheader against the Parkland Expos. Game times are set for 1:00 and 4:00 from Lynne Prime Park in Estevan.
