The field has been set for Hoopla, the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association provincial basketball championship tournament. This year, the tournament will be played in Prince Albert.

Weyburn will be represented by the senior boys’ team from Weyburn Comprehensive. The Eagles travelled to North Battleford for their regional, where they played in the 4A regionals. They entered the tournament as the number two seed.

In the late game Friday against Martensville, the Eagles dominated, coming away with a 91-37 victory, setting up a match against the host team from John Paul II. In the game, Weyburn would come away with a 79-74 victory, advancing to Hoopla.

At the provincial tournament, the Eagles will be the only team not from Moose Jaw competing in the 4A group. They open against Moose Jaw Vanier on Friday.

In the Girls 1A division, Gladmar came out strong and picked up two big wins to advance to Hoopla. They started out their tournament, which was being played in Birch Hills, against Lake Lenore. They came out on top against the higher seeded team 68-45. In the second round of the tournament, it was an even bigger upset.

Gladmar, who came into the regionals as the number 11 seed, beat the number three seed Birch Hills 59-54. With the win, Gladmar will now take on the number two seed Middle Lake in the first round of the Hoopla tournament in Prince Albert on Friday.
