Last month it was announced by the Saskatchewan Soccer Association that they would be teaming up with Living Sky Sports and Entertainment to launch a new competition called Soccer Town Saskatchewan.

The contest was open to all 57 of the SSA's member organizations and the Weyburn Soccer Association was just announced as the final video submission for people to vote on.

"So Living Sky Sports and Entertainment are bringing a professional Canadian Premier League soccer team to Saskatchewan and they are making a stadium in Saskatoon as well," shared Jason Roy, President of the Weyburn Soccer Association. "They want to name one community as Soccer Town and the location that wins gets a $5,000 prize to help their community and their club to be able to provide better programs as well as better equipment."

The teams had to receive 25 likes to be able to move forward in the competition and with how supportive Weyburn is it was an easy task for the Weyburn Soccer Association.

As of today, Weyburn Soccer's video that they put together with footage from some of their recent practices has been shared on the Saskatchewan Soccer Association's Facebook page.

The winning entry will be judged on a variety of criteria, with one organization winning the grand prize.

“LSSE is honored to join SSA in support of Soccer Town Saskatchewan. This wonderful initiative will benefit a club or organization in the province with funds to enhance the soccer infrastructure or equipment needs in their community – and that’s a good thing,” said LSSE founder Al Simpson, who is leading efforts to bring the CPL to Saskatoon.

“As the game of soccer continues to grow worldwide with Canada and Saskatchewan being no exception, LSSE is hopeful that we can bring a professional team to the province. We believe a pro team will give our local players who aspire to play professionally the opportunity to play at home, and just as importantly, our Saskatchewan fans of the game a team of their own to cheer and support.”

The Soccer Town Saskatchewan contest will run until June 29, when the winner will be revealed on social media and later this week they will share the top three teams that they have chosen.
