The Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association held the girls provincial volleyball tournaments this weekend, and the southeast was represented across all classifications. The boys 5A tournament was also held, while the other classifications played their regionals.

The senior girls’ team from Weyburn Comprehensive School travelled to Melfort for their tournament. They opened against Prince Albert St. Mary, falling 2-0, and then dropping a  2-1 decision to the host team from Melfort. They turned things around on the first day of round robin play, beating Regina Campbell 2-1.

On the second day of the tournament, the Eagles faced Saskatoon St. Joseph, falling 2-0. They held the eighth seed heading into the medal round, where they played Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney. It would be Bishop Mahoney earning the win, though, with a 2-1 final.

The tournament would ultimately be won by Prince Albert St. Mary.

In the boys 5A tournament, the Eagles stumbled out of the gates, falling 2-0 to Regina LeBoldus. They turned it around, though, winning their second game against Meadow Lake Carpenter 2-1, and then beating Saskatoon Holy Cross 2-1.

On the second day of the tournament Saturday, they beat Prince Albert Carlton 2-0, and were seeded third for the medal round that afternoon. In the first round, though, they were upset 2-1 by Balgonie Greenall.

Swift Current would go on to capture the gold medal.

In the girls 4A tournament, which was held in Yorkton, two teams from the southeast came home with medals. Oxbow played in the gold medal match-up against Caronport, but fell 2-0. Kipling took on Unity for the Bronze medal, and won 2-0.

The 3A tournament was played in Carlyle, and the home team had a strong showing. They finished in fourth place in the tournament.
