With a night full of playoff implications and all twelve teams in action, the historic rivalry of the Weyburn Red Wings and Estevan Bruins delivered a playoff like atmosphere and performance at Affinity Place in Estevan.

The Red Wings and Bruins would come out flying in the first period exchanging rush after rush keeping the near capacity crowd of 2244 highly entertained and on the edge of their seats through a scoreless twenty minutes. Weyburn would take the 9-8 edge for shots on goal to the locker room.

The Bruins would waste no time getting things rolling in the second frame. With Wing's Dylan McCabe sitting for a questionable tripping call 31 seconds in, Kaelen Holt would bury a beautiful wrist shot with just 13 seconds ticking off the penalty and the building erupted.

The power play talley was just the beginning as Josh Regier and Matt McNeil would pick up assists on Holt's 25th of the season. Estevan would soon go short handed with their Captain Lynnden Pastachak receiving a two minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct the Bruins would strike again. Zach Goberis would spring Jason Miller on the shorthanded breakaway and Miller would snipe his 26th on the season making it 2-0 Estevan.

The Bruins continued to pour on the pressure to the Weyburn Red Wings and extend their lead to three goals just a minute nineteen later McNeil would pick up his 27th goal on the season and his second point of the night to extend the lead with Holt and Tyler Hengen picking up the helpers. Those three goals all coming within a 3:32 span.

That would mark the end of Carter Phair's night and Jake MacLennon would come into the game to relieve his teammate.

The Red Wings would settle down and start to claw their way back into the game. Conor Burk continued to contribute as he has being playing very well as of late with seven points (5-2-7) in his last seven games dating back to the last time the Wings were in Estevan on February 11th. He would strike on a beautiful one-timer set up by a terrific play from Captain Mike Eskra. Ian Parker would dish the puck off to Eskra at the point, where he decided to walk in from the point, stepping around Michael McChesney and hitting Burk with a crisp pass right in his wheelhouse on the face-off dot of his off-wing he let a blast go for his 6th on the season.

Carson Rose would find a way to extend his 12 game point streak (13-8-21) and draw the Wings within one on his 24th of the season. Burk would snag his second point of the game with an assist and Jacob Wozney would tally his 51st point on the year with the second assist. Weyburn would continue to lead in the shot department after 40 minutes with 16-13 margin in the middle frame.

The two teams would finish the game like they started it with a hard fought and hard working third period including a chance just shy of the buzzer for the Red Wings to tie the game in the mad scramble. The buzzer would sound and Nathan Alalouf would finish the game turning aside 38 of 40 shots for the win in net for the Bruins.

The Red Wings however, will have to have a short memory as they are back on the ice Saturday night to finish the regular season off at home. 7:30pm puck drop at Crescent Point Place but if you can't make it out, tune in to Red Wing Radio on K106, Steven Wilson and Zac Chartrand will have all the action starting with the pregame show at 7:20pm.
