The Weyburn Red Wings are against the ropes, after falling 8-1 to the Battlefords North Stars Monday night. The Stars now command a 3-games to none lead over the Wings in the best-of-seven SJHL quarterfinal series, with the Battlefords looking to complete the sweep Tuesday night.

The game opened with a tight first period, as the Wings looked to get a jump in the game. The North Stars would be the first on the board, though, as a shot from the point by Cody Spagrud found just large enough o f a hole over the left should of Weyburn netminder Jake MacLennan six minutes into the game.

The Wings would respond, though, roughly five minutes later. Noah Wozney fended off a defender, and fed the puck through the slot over for Cody Chasse, who slipped it past Taryn Kotchorek. The goal for Chasse is his first of the post-season, coming in his first game of the post-season.

The North Stars would then take over, starting in the second period. The Wings were shorthanded early in the second frame, and Ben Allen would score his fifth of the playoffs. The North Stars would then see scoring to round out the period from Layne Young, Reed Delainey and Connor Logan. At the other end, Kotchorek kept the North Stars ahead.

Cole Woodliffe had one of the better chances for the Wings in the period, as he came in to the Stars zone, danced his way through three defenders, and looked to have Kotchorek beat, but the Stars goalie made a big save. Aiden Wagner had a chance as well, settling the puck down as he crossed the blue line, and coming in on the Battlefords net. Wagner was unable to score, but did draw a penalty.

In the third period, the North Stars continued to add to their lead, as Owen Lamb, Bryce Hall and Logan all scored. After the Hall goal, things got very chippy between the two teams.

Noah Wozney bumped Hall right after the goal, and that drew a crowd along the boards beside the Wings bench. In the end, Keaton Holinaty and Chasse from the Wings were sent to the locker rooms early with ten minute misconducts, while Noah Wozney was called for cross checking. Jake Wozney of the Wings, and Battlefords Jared Blaquiere were called for roughing.

Game four of the series goes Tuesday night at Crescent Point Place. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. You can listen to all the action live on Red Wing Radio K106, beginning with the pregame show at 7:20 p.m.
