Another night on the road turned in to another blowout loss for the Weyburn Red Wings. Out in Flin Flon it was the Bombers who showed their mettle in a 6–1 win on Wednesday night.

For the second consecutive night the Wings were manhandled on their northern road trip and are left searching for answers. Once again, it was a slow start that saw the Wings fall behind early and they were unable to crawl out of the hole.

Chrystopher Collin and Caleb Moretz both scored for Flin Flon in the first 7:34, forcing head coach Wes Rudy to call timeout and try to settle his guys down. It wouldn’t overly help, as the Bombers added two more before the end of the period to sit comfortably after the first with a 4–0 lead.

Early in the second period, a scary moment saw Drew Anderson get plastered from behind by Moretz. Zac Gladu came to his defence and both were kicked out for fighting. Flin Flon’s Moretz was also given a five minute major for checking from behind.

Weyburn couldn’t capitalize on the extended man advantage but shortly after Ben Hiltz would tally his 13th of the season to snap his goalless drought. That would be the lone goal for the Wings on Wednesday night, although they did throw some tough shots at the Bomber net.

The fifth Flin Flon goal came with some controversy after Riley Lamb was bumped and knocked to his stomach in front, before Donovan Houle-Villeneuve shot into a wide-open net. No call was made on the play, with many Red Wings players and coaches irate with the call.

It was a momentum killer in the second period that seemed to seal the fate for the Red Wings on this night.

The final shot tally read 47–37 for in favour of the Bombers, who scored a goal in every period en route to the win.

Now with a 9–16–2 record, the Wings have a day off before facing the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday night. As far as November hockey goes this is as “must-win” as it gets against an Ice Wolves team that has lost 12 straight games.

Red Wing fans can hear all the action from the Mel Hegland Uniplex on Friday night, starting with the pre-game show at 7:20 on BIG106.
