The Weyburn Red Wings have now picked up a win over every team in the SJHL after they beat the Kindersley Klippers 4-1 at Crescent Point Place Friday night. Jordan Kazymyra scored twice, while the Wings went 2-for-7 with the man advantage en route to the win. Arik Weersink saw limited work, stopping 18 shots for the win.

The Wings didn’t wait long to open the scoring. After both teams ended up sending players to the penalty box on separate penalties, during the 4-on-4 situation Erik Olson scored his 15th of the year just 2:39 into the game. The goal was assisted by rookie Jordan Kazymyra, and defenseman Carson Scheschuk.

Weyburn then extended the lead in the later stages of the second period, when Kazymyra scored on the power play. The goal, his 12th of the campaign, was assisted by Dexter Robinson and Connor Pyne. The two-goal margin would prove to be short-lived, though.

Just three minutes later, the puck was loose in the Weyburn zone after a missed pass by Kindersley, and defenseman Brody Ryberg one-timed it past Weersink to make it a 2-1 game.

In the dying seconds of the second, a chippy game got physical when Wyatt Arndt dropped the gloves with Kindersley’s Cody Hodgson. For Arndt, it was the first fight of his SJHL career, and it would be a no-decision, as the linesmen jumped in after Arndt was tangled up in his jersey.

Kazymyra would restore the two-goal lead before the third period was six minutes old with his second of the game. Olson assisted on the goal, as did rookie blueliner Garrett Szeremley. Weyburn continued to dominate the play in the third, outshooting Kindersley 14-4.

The offense paid off late in the period. After Kindersley’s Kyle Bosch was called for roughing behind the play, Mike Eskra scored on the ensuing power play. The captain’s sixth of the year was assisted by Olson and Kowalski.

The Red Wings, who were hoping to leapfrog Estevan into first in the Viterra Division, remain in second place after the Bruins picked up a win themselves Friday. They shutout the Yorkton Terriers 9-0. The Wings will look to recapture the top spot in the division Saturday when they host the Klippers for the second night in a row at Crescent Point Place. The puck drops on the game at 7:30 p.m.
