The Weyburn Red Wings making what is perhaps the biggest trade of the season just ahead of the January 10th roster deadline. It was announced Tuesday morning the Red Wings have sent forward and captain Cade Kowalski to the Flin Flon Bombers in exchange for 99-born forward Dawson McKenzie and future considerations.

Over the past two seasons, Kowalski played 91 games for the Red Wings. The Morden, MB native was co-winner of the SJHL’s Rookie of the Year last season. He has accumulated 99 points in his SJHL career, including 25 goals.

Kowalski played seven playoff games last year, scoring four goals and adding an assist.

McKenzie has played 88 games with the Bombers over two seasons. This year, he has picked up 22 points in 34 games. He has also picked up 23 penalty minutes.

Kowalski is expected to make his debut with the Bombers tonight in Nipawin. McKenzie is expected to arrive in Weyburn over the next few days.
