The Weyburn Soccer Association is getting ready for their season after weather forced the start date to be pushed back for a week. The teams will be getting on the field next week.

Jason Roy is the president of the WSA. He told Discover Weyburn the fields are drying out nicely.

“With the forecast, you guys are forecasting for this week, we really should be ready to go by this weekend when we do our field prep on Saturday, and the soccer should be starting this coming week, Monday with the girls, and Tuesday with the boys,” Roy said.

The field prep will involve painting the lines for the fields and getting the pitches ready for a season full of action. Roy explained there will be a little more this year compared to years past.

“This year with our who structure change with our U13 and U15, that’s kind of the odd ages, last year it was just even numbers, that now brings a whole age group into a larger field size.”

The Red Devils and Black Devils travelling teams got an early start to the season. Roy said they have been practising indoors a few times already. There is also the addition of two new age groups. There is a U5 age group which will play at Jubilee Park and the U9 Mighty Red Devils and U9 Mighty Black Devils will make their debuts as travelling teams this year.
