Bienfait @ Yellow Grass Game 2, Bienfait leads 1-0

Coming into the game, the Coalers were the only team in the league with a winning record against the Wheat Kings, while Yellow Grass had not lost a single game at home all season long.

In the first period, almost half of the period would go by before a goal would find its way on to the board. On the powerplay, Wheat Kings sniper Shelby Gray would do exactly that after Mike Onstad would reach up and pick the puck clean out of the air, career it in, then shovel it back to Gray. He'd wind up and blast a shot from the point through traffic and over the blocker of Coaler's goalie Jackson Walliser.

Three minutes later, Reid Patterson would snag the puck at the side of the net in the Coalers zone, skate towards the net and fire a wrist shot towards the inside pad of Walliser, forcing him to kick out a rebound. Patterson then dove to slap the puck into the net to make it a two-goal game on the solo effort.

With under five minutes in the third, the Wheat Kings would extend their lead thanks to a quick behind the net pass when Brendan Vertefeuille sent the puck out front for Troy Miller who would tap it home.

After the first, 3-0 Yellow Grass.

The second would start better for the Coalers in what was one of the weirdest periods of hockey you'll ever see. One play, in particular, saw Walliser knocked down and out of his net for an extended period of time before his team could clear it, and the exact same thing happened to Tanner Erickson in the Wheat Kings zone. As well, an odd sequence of chirps led to Hunter Piche to take 10-minute misconduct on a play without his team receiving a minor.

The Coalers would score first, however, when Dallas Kickley sent a pass out front for Levi Kress, and Kress would hack at it twice before it went in through Erickson's legs to bring it back to within two. That would last all of 19 seconds as Troy Miller would break down the right side of the ice and rip a wrist shot over Walliser's glove for the momentum killer goal.

Before the period ended, Matt Bourassa would score on another similar hack at it play in front of the net, making a two-goal game once more.

After two, 4-2 Yellow Grass.

In the third, the game would open up five minutes in for the Wheat Kings when Devin Cobbold would get a pass in front that he couldn't miss on, and a minute later Brendon Vertefeuille would score off the back of Walliser from a sharp angle to make it a four-goal game.

The Coalers would fire everything they could manage at Erickson, but he shut things down and earned the first star of the night in the series-tying win.
