Almost $100,000 has been raised for breast cancer research thanks to women in Saskatchewan.

Braving harsh temperatures, and patiently enduring an unfortunate lack of snow, the Prairie Women On Snowmobiles wrapped up their six-day, 25-stop tour in the Southeast on Friday. They began their 2018 mission tour on February 4, stopping in Weyburn, Arcola, Lampman and Stoughton on February 8, and wrapped up on February 9 in Estevan.

The women stopped in Weyburn on February 8.

Club President Kelly Kim Rae announced the club raised $35,708 for the Canadian Cancer Society at a reception held in their honour in Estevan. With another $61,683 donated to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency as well, their total contribution to breast cancer research was $97,492.

The group of 10 volunteer snowmobilers covered approximately 1,400 kilometres during their six-day run and faced challenges beyond the frigid temperatures, according to Rae.

"The snow gods weren't in our favour, unfortunately," explained Rae. "The ladies did get to ride about 50 kilometres, from Kisbey to Kenossee Lake, which is nice."

For the rest of the trip, the snowmobiles were strapped to a flatbed semi, with the riders and crew packed into a van.
