First Avenue NW is closed again this morning, as city crews work on emergency water main repairs. The work had started yesterday, and crews had finished up around 6:00 p.m. Around 9:00 p.m., while they were backfilling the excavation, they ran into a problem, according to Clause Morin, superintendent of public works with the city.

“Another break occurred, we believe downpipe from the first repair,” Morin explained. This resulted in a loss of water for the affected resident again overnight.

Crews will be working to restore service to the affected residents who have no water. They are also hoping to have the road opened again to allow traffic through the area.

The closure of 1st Avenue NW is from Government Road to 5th Street W. The city is asking the public to plan alternate routes around the work zone. They also ask the public to respect the barricades and work zones.
