Public - Rail Safety Week is wrapping up and Discover Weyburn looked into local train accident statistics from 2016.

The Weyburn Police Service reported two incidents where Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail police were contacted. The CP line through the city was shut down for a short time during these two cases.

Two traffic related incidents were also reported by police, along with several speeding occurrences at the Hwy 39 crossing.

Weyburn's fire chief, Simon Almond, said few emergency situations happen in the community.

"And we've always had a really good relationship with CP rail in regards to shutting the rail line down and we can do our job and open it back up again."

A train car was donated to the Weyburn Fire Department a number of years ago, and firefighters use it for training purposes.

From January to March of this year in Saskatchewan, three accidents have occurred at railway crossings. None of these were identified to be in the Weyburn area.
