The 48th annual Western Blind Curling Competition is making its way to Weyburn in March. Eight teams from across Western Canada will be making their way to Weyburn to compete against one another.

The teams are made up almost entirely of people who are either blind or visually impaired and can only see a few feet in front of themselves. Each team Lead, Third and Skip are all either blind or visually impaired while the Second is full-sighted. The Second helps to guide the other members of their team to avoid any accidents.

Despite the sport being a very visual one, Curling Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Blind Sports Association Michael Hiens says the players still make do.

"Every year teams compete from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We all get together and we usually switch provinces every year and this year we brought it to Saskatchewan," added Hiens. "And we figured what better place than the small community Weyburn to host it?"

The event will be taking place starting on March 11th and spanning until the 14th. The teams will play round-robin then work their way into brackets where the champions will be decided.

"It's completely free, so come out and watch."

The competition that started in 1972 will take place at the Weyburn Curling Club.
