A grieving community comes together to remember and celebrate Abbie Speir's life.

Yellow Grass was devastated at the loss of Abbie Speir, a prominent and active member of the community who died in April. After years of Speir serving the community, the community decided to give something back: Speir had three young children, and the community decided to fundraise money for their trust funds in memory of their mother.

Abbie's Day was Saturday with a variety of events to help raise money, including a softball tournament, face painting, and a dinner.

"We sold the purple ribbons to make awareness for domestic violence," said Jen Wilkinson, president of the Yellow Grass Community Club, who organized the event. "We wanted to say that this is too silent of a subject, and we need to stand up and realize that support is there and there are people who can help, and it's okay to reach out and ask for that help."

Wilkinson noted that the whole day was a very healing experience for the community.
