In partnership with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils, the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance is hosting a Vital Community Conversation in Weyburn next week.

The Vital Community Conversation program has just officially been launched as part of the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation's 50th anniversary.

The meeting will focus on the local arts community including artists, arts administrators, arts educators, and those simply interested in the arts. The facilitated questions will pinpoint the community's key needs/priorities, and critical issues.

“If you have a child that's in the arts, or if you're a hobbyist, or your like doing art, you're always welcome to come out,” said Communications and Outreach Officer with the SAA, Jessica Riess. “Or if you like going to the music festival or anything like that, we want you at this meeting.”

The SAA promotes the lively existence and continued growth of the arts and cultural industries in the province. By meeting people who make arts and culture happen in Saskatchewan, they get a clearer picture of where they should be focusing our efforts, they learn about the challenges and successes in each community.

“The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance is a provincial advocacy organization, and so when we know what's going on within an arts community, we are better able to advocate on behalf of the arts,” explained Riess.

“Often times we can take that to government officials or funders and say ‘this is what is working really well in the communities, and they're doing a lot with almost nothing and this is what they need to make it even better’,” she added.

The meeting to discuss the arts community in Weyburn will be held in Weyburn on Tuesday, April 2nd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Signal Hill Arts Centre.

“What's going on there, your brags, what's great, what's happening, and also issues and concerns. Maybe what's not happening, what's not great, how we can help out, what we should be made aware of,” explained Riess.

Since refreshments will be served, anyone interested in attending can RSVP by March 29 to outreach@artsalliance.sk.ca or call 306-780-9820.
