With the recently released budget, the provincial government bumped the amount of funding families with children with autism under the age of six receive. The funding is being increased from $4,000 a year to $6,000.

Katie Emde is an advocate for the families and said the funding increase is a good start but many still feel more should have been done.

"A lot of people, I guess, were a little bit disappointed about it, and us included for our family, is that not only were we looking for an increase in money but we were looking for an increase in age. That seems to go be going hand-in-hand and we were really looking for that and really hoping that they were going to increase the age."

Emde said many families were hoping the eligible age limit would be increased from six to eight years old.
