It was the end of an era in Saskatchewan politics yesterday for Premier Brad Wall as he spent his last day in the legislature as the head of the Sask Party.

The 14th Premier in the province's history will end his over-a-decade-long run on January 27 when he steps aside, but not before "leaving Saskatchewan better than [he] found it," - according to Wall.

Wall spoke on that theme yesterday during his final speech as premier.

"Mr. Speaker did you leave things better than you found them?" Wall began with. "It is more than a cliche, it's more than a rhetorical question of course, it's really kind of devoid of a temporal consideration, it's devoid of a partisan consideration for the most part and if it can be answered in the affirmative yes... you left things better than you found them, then it has the potential to be transformational and generational."

Longtime Swift Current MLA, Wall was honoured yesterday by many Sask Party MLAs in the legislature for the work he'd done since taking over the provincial office on November 21, 2007.

Wall, during his final speech, was very grateful towards Swift Current and area for allowing him to fulfill his dreams.

"First let me say thank you to the electors of Swift Current constituency, that's my hometown," he explained. "When I played Poleconomy as a kid with my generation of political nerds, so often it was just me and one other person. I wanted to be the member of Swift Current, federally or provincially it didn't really matter, I just have long thought that would be a great honour."

Through the course of his final speech, Wall was happy with the way they improved healthcare by hiring 4,000 more workers. He was also pleased with the major upgrades to roadways and infrastructure in which over 13,000 kilometers of roadway was paved or redone.
